CEH vs CISSP

CEH and CISSP are not really competitors, they are for different career stages. CEH is an entry to mid level technical certification that passes HR filters. CISSP is a senior management certification that requires years of experience. If you are early in your career the question answers itself: CEH is reachable now, CISSP is not.

They solve different problems

Comparing CEH and CISSP directly misleads, because you rarely choose between them at one moment. CEH is for getting into and through technical roles. CISSP is for moving into security management. Most careers touch both, years apart.

CEH: the HR filter certification

CEH is a multiple choice knowledge exam covering offensive security concepts broadly. Its real value is passing HR keyword filters at large firms and appearing on approved certification lists. It does not prove hands on ability. See is CEH worth it.

CISSP: the management certification

CISSP covers security governance, risk and management across eight domains. It requires five years of experience to be fully certified, which is why it is a mid to late career credential. It is what many management and leadership roles ask for.

What about hands on ability

1. Early: a practical cert like OSCP for skill, CEH if employers filter on it
